Kootenai River and Suspension Bridge

On Tuesday, we traveled from Moses Lake, Washington through the panhandle of northern Idaho and into Montana. We left the Cascades behind and headed for the Rockies. We enjoyed more beautiful scenery, with mountains, rock outcrops, streams, lakes, and evergreen trees. 

We did make one stop during our drive today. Near Libby, Montana, we stopped to view the Kootenai Falls and to walk across a suspension (swinging) bridge. The Kootenai River runs through a canyon which consists of sandstones and shales. As the river flows in this narrow canyon, there are a number of cascades or falls. There is a path that runs alongside the river, so as you walk along the path and view the river down below, you can hear the rush of water.

The suspension bridge was fun to walk across. It swayed as you walked and felt very unsteady. The views from the middle of the bridge up and down the canyon were spectacular.  

After enjoying a short hike to the suspension bridge, we drove another 100 miles to the picturesque town of Kalispell, Montana, where we will be staying for a couple of nights.
